"Thai soldiers killed two people and wounded one in a shooting at a military facility in Bangkok on Wednesday (September 14, 2022)," police and army officials were quoted as saying by AFP.
Sergeant Major Yongyuth Mungkornkim, an employee at the Royal Thai Army War College, shot three other soldiers around 8:45 a.m. local time, the military said in a statement.
The 59-year-old tried to flee the scene but turned himself in around 10:00 a.m., deputy national police spokeswoman Kissana Phathanacharoen told reporters.
"The army would like to extend its condolences to the families of the dead and wounded soldiers. This incident is a loss to the family and the organization. This is something that was not expected to happen," deputy military spokesman Senior Colonel Sirichan Nga-thong said in a statement.
"The cause and motivation of the incident is under investigation."
After the shooting of the army, the police and soldiers guarded the gate of the facility, part of a large complex of military buildings in the north of the capital.
The military in its statement identified the victims as Sergeant Major Nopparat Inthasunthorn and Sergeant Major Prakarn Sinsong.
The third wounded soldier, Sergeant Major Yongyuth Panyanuwat, was taken to hospital for treatment, the statement said.
